Hello! Recovery of function in the upper extremity(shoulder, arm & hand) depends on the severity of paralysis in this area. Generally most recovery occurs within 6 months of the stroke. In your case 3 yrs.have gone by. There is a relatively new technique called 'robotic assisted therapy' which has given favorable results in cases as long as 5 yrs.after stoke in cases similar to your dad's.You could discuss
this in detail with your neurophysician. All the best!
