Suggest Therapy For Memory Loss

my mother had suffered a severe cardiac arrest. Now she over came it. But she had developed a mis match in memory. Even though she can identify the peoples, but she can't recollect the past things correctly. If she asked one question and we answered, after some time she will again ask the same question and also some mis matches in the memory. Is there any medicine for the same?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
If your mother has problems with memory for recent events, you should see a psychiatrist. It is likely that she was having some mild memory problems earlier and after the cardiac problem, there was an exacerbation.
A psychiatrist will evaluate her for her memory (recent and remote), her language, sensory-motor coordination, judgment, insight etc. He or She may order a few tests to rule out common causes of memory impairment.
If your mother is diagnosed to have dementia, the psychiatrist will prescribe medicines (such as donepezil or rivastigmine and memantine) which are usually helpful.
Hope this answers your question.
