I am 31 years old Swedish woman and did my first pap smear a week age. I have tried before, but failed due to my phobia of gynaecological examinations. Finally taking the test has resulted in extreme worries over the test result: that I already have advanced and uncurable cervical cancer. Can someone tell me how big the risk of that is? I had the first intercourse at 21, have had 3 partners (1 between 21-24, 2 from 26-now) and donĀ“t smoke. I have had no problems with abnormal bleedings or discharge.
Hi, If you do not have any symptoms of bleeding or foul smelling discharge, extreme weight loss you very unlikely to have advanced cervical cancer. Some things you need to know about Pap smears, is that they help detect the future development of cervical cancer, so they kind off get you a risk estimate depending on what is seen in the test. Cervical cancer changes are slow to occur going from precancerous lesions called CIN 1, CIN 2, CIN 3 to frank carcinoma, and moving from one stage to another can take 3-4 years if left untreated. So do not worry of the PAP, they are to help decrease your worries and anxiety not increase them. With a negative result you can be relieved for 3 years, when you again repeat the PAP till the age of 50. Prevention is better than cure. Hope this helps. Regards.
