Suggest The Right Time To Take Birth Control Pills

I ran out of my BCPs and have been off them for about 2 weeks. My doctor prescribed new ones but I m not supposed to start them until my period starts again. However, I didn t get the chance to tell my doctor that I was off the meds. So can I start taking the pills when I expect to start my period rather than when it actually starts because my periods were fairly irregular before the pills and I don t know how my body will react to being off the meds and I want to regulate my body again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern
You should start the pill from the first day of your period(when the no more bleeding). So I advice you to wait for period to come. Till that you can use another contraception like barrier method.
I advice you to take white tablet from the first day of period. Take for 21 days and then start remaining different color tablet. Take on the same time every day to prevent the side effect and regularize the body. For best effect, do not miss any tablet.
You can use newer BCP like Femilon and microgynon.
For irregular period, you can also take progesterone only pill in the second half of the tablet after getting advice from gynaecologist.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
