Suggest Specialist To Be Consulted For Stabbing Pain In Abdomen

Good afternoon, I am a 41 year old female, not pregnant, 5 6 120 lbs. I have been dealing with an issue with pains on my left side for over a year now. The pains vary in severity, location, how long they last and the kind of pain, but are most frequently a burning/stabbing pain located about two inches to the left and one inch lower than my navel. I have seen a general practitioner who guessed at it being either an ulcer or a GI problem, suggested I take ulcer meds and see a GI doctor. I the GI, he sent me for a regular as well as a tv ultrasound. He saw nothing alarming other than fibroids and sent me to an OB. One OB said the only real solution would be a hysterectomy, to take Advil if I can t handle the pain and the other one I saw (for obvious reasons) said the pains I get are not related to the fibroids as they are too small. My question: What kind of tests should I ask to have done by what kind of doctor? I would really like to find out what is wrong so I can go back to functioning normally again.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You should consider a neurologist.

Burning stabbing pain can be related to abnormal function of the nerves in a particular area.
This is called peripheral neuropathy.

A neurologist would be able to determine if this is the case.

Causes of neuropathy include: (A)diabetes
(B)liver or kidney disease
(C)trauma eg even arthritis to the spine
(D)side effect of medication
(E)vitamin b12 and/folate deficiency
(F)exposure to toxins
(G)thyroid disease
(H) infections such as shingles
(I)idiopathic- cause is not known

Blood tests such as complete blood count, vitamin levels, screening for diabetes, checking for liver and kidney disease, may be helpful to determine the exact cause

I hope this helps
