Suggest Risks Of Hypothyroidism

my mum died due to surgical mistake and perotinitis after a gall bladder op. However in her post mortem she had severe lymphocytic thyroditis. All her children, including me have hypothrodism and take 150 mg of levothroxine. How will this disease manifest itself on us - other disesases to be aware of ? We are all in our thirties and on levothroxine. I think our Mum was just put on this medication hersekf 3 years before her death. Can you advise of risks to us ?

Hello,
I read carefully your concern.
Yes, lymphocytic thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease and is inherited in most of the cases.
There is nothing you can do to prevent it. You should check TSH level and anti TPO and anti thyroglobuoin antibodies. Once they are positive and TSH level is not affected yet, you can discuss with your physician about the possibility to start selenium. In some cases it has a positive effect in the antibodies titre.
