Geriatrics Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. 1000 is too high platelet count and needs to reduced to avoid risk of thrombosis.
2. 16 count is only mild elevation and is not of immediate concern. Differential count and presence of immature cells, if any are more important.
3. You might require platelet apheresis during the immediate period. Medications like hydroxyurea can be taken. Discuss with your doctor regarding medication and prescription. Platelet count should be brought within the normal range.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
