My husband recently experienced an anxiety attack. He is a 66 year old male, does not smoke or drink (excessively) has had an esophageal ulcer (which has healed) and 6 weeks ago underwent a complete shoulder replacement surgery. The spasms in his lower esophagus have been present since his ulcer, but since the anxiety attack have been more pronounced and severe. Because of the surgery, he has had a VERY complete physical; heart, lungs, x-rays etc. and because of the spasms, had an endoscopy to check out his esophagus. The result/diagnosis of that was 'irritated esophagitis'. He takes Lorazepam for his anxiety and when he does, the spasms disappear. Logic tells me that anxiety is the cause. So my question is; How to stop the anxiety so the spasms stop, too, without being dependent on the RX? He's not even aware of any anxiety and thinks the spasms are a result of something else. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thank you much,
