Last week I had a bad cold with flu symptoms and fever. I went to the doctor to get cough medicine, partularly for night time. We decided that it might be viral so he didn't prescribe an antibiotic. I try not to take them unless absolutely necessary.
I'm feeling much better but for the last couple of days my throat feels like it is sticking together and it hurts when I try to swallow. Is there anything I can do??
Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.
Looking at your symptoms, the nasal secretions might have passed backwards in the throat leading to irritation and inflammation of the throat.
You may find relief by taking the following medicines: Oral decongestant like Phenylephrine and Nasal decongestant drops like Xylometazoline(take decongestant only if you are not suffering from hypertension), Antihistaminic like Cetrizine, Mucolytic like Ambroxol, Saline nasal spray, and Analgesic and anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen in case of throat pain.
Also do warm saline gargles.Do steam inhalation.Drink lots of fluids(warm) as they help in break down of mucus secretions.Avoid cold, very sweet ,oily food, milk and milk products as they increase mucus production.Avoid dust, smoke and other pollutants.
Hope this answers your question.take care.
