Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m a 39 yo soccer player and took a shot to my left knee on Sunday. There is some swelling and the knee will pop after icing for 20 minutes. I do have a standard pop when flexing the knee that has been there my entire life. I m curious about actually seeing someone for this or just waiting to see if the swelling will go away on its own. I can run, cut, bear weight, etc. still with no ill affects other than increased swelling. The tightness that was initially there on Sunday is gone, with only a hint of a pull if I do a lunge.

Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your knee problem is most likely synovitis secondary to damage of meniscus or ligament in knee joint. An examination with orthopedician and an X ray followed by MRI might be needed to confirm that. For such cases i advice icing and immobilisation by elastic bandage and NSAIDs initially. If there is any serious damage it should be corrected with arthroscopy. Conservative treatment can be continued for 3 months with physiotherapy if it is minor damage . Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries.
