Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I fell off my bicycle and hit my shin which swelled to about the size of a tennis ball. A week later it is the size of a golf ball and the entire shin is bruised. However, my ankle is blue and twice the size of my other ankle with most of the blood seeming to pool in my heel. I m wondering if that s normal or if I should have someone look at it.
Hello, i have studied your case and I do not think we can take this case so lightly. I would suggest you to meet a doctor and get x ray of the ankle and leg. There is a possibility of either hair line fracture or a soft tissue injury leading to Hematoma. If there is any fracture than you will need splinting of that part. If there is hematoma than there is nothing to be worried about. You need to get hot water fomentation and local ointment. Taking antibiotics for five days is also useful as there is chances of hematoma get infected. Avoid standing for long time on the feet. I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
