Suggest Remedy For Strain During Urination

Female, 39yo, I have a 4.8mm kidney stone casing complete obstruction of the left ureter. Will be going for lithotripsy in 6 days. I'm straining to get any urine out and don't feel like I'm urinating enough to compensate for the amount of water I'm drinking. Seems like a long wait for my procedure. My dr says not to worry as long as urine is coming out at all. What do you think?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read the history and reports and understood your problem.

First of all I would say, it is difficult that a small stone of 4.8 mm can cause obstruction in the ureter unless it is serrated and thorny or the kidney on that particular side has stopped functioning. IT is better that you get a Renoscan to see for the functioning of the kidneys, If it is not available at least get IVP, intravenous Pyelography done to see whether the left kidney is working or not.

Secondly, ureteroscopy may be sufficient to remove this stone and lithotriptsy may not be necessary.

The ''straining'' to get urine has nothing to do with the quantity one has in the bladder. This is more suggestive of cystitis and urinary tract infection causing this type of symptom.
For this you are advised to measure the intake you have and the output of urine you have in 24 hour period. This is the simplest test you can do at home.

I hope all these points will help to have a proper direction in the management of your problem.

Wishing you early and complete recovery
