Suggest Remedy For Sore Throat And Headache

I currently had strep throat and was put on augmentin, I started a blotchy rash on my arm. I also am currently on warfarin for a pulmonary embolism with infarction. My throat is so soar and have terrible headaches. Was told I could not take Tylenol or ibuprofen. Is this true?

I am sorry to hear that you have a severe sore throat and headache. To help with the sore throat I recommend my patients to use warm salt water gargles. This helps sooth the throat and wash away some of the mucous that builds up on the back of the throat. I recommend taking warm not hot water sprinkling salt in the water and then gargle and spit. Do not swallow as this is too much salt and sodium

For the headache you can take Tylenol. The ibuprofen is not recommended as it can cause stomach ulcerations and increase bleeding risk with warfarin. But Tylenol is completely safe with warfarin
