Suggest Remedy For Sleep Disorder Post Opiates Withdrawal

I recently quit using opiates after about three years, and I am having trouble sleeping. It's been about a month and I am starting to get frustrated. I am taking Benadryl and sometimes Trazadone with poor results. I am also having trouble getting much enjoyment out of things that once were enjoyable. When will I be back to normal, if ever.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Opiates are the drugs that have high dependence potential so even if an individual stop using the drug by reducing the doses still the problems of sleep might remain for long time. This is also called as protracted withdrawal. To help in sleep some drugs like Gabapentin or Pregabalin can help. These medicines will help to reduce the pain also. Other drugs like Clonidine can also be utilised. Clonidine not only help to reduce the withdrawal symptoms but also help in good sleep. Please talk to a psychiatrist and discuss about these drugs. Trazodone can help in sleep but the drug will not help much in opioid withdrawal.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
