Suggest Remedy For Shoulder Pain

Fell on right arm and shoulder playing softball in outfield. No "immediate pain" but right hand tingled like it was swelling. Afterwards i have limited ability to lift my right arm. When pressing on skin where shoulder meets upper arm, it is intense pain. Should and upper arm moderately swollen, no bruising.. HELP

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Based on the mechanism of injury and the fact that you cannot lift your arm, I suspect that you had a rotator cuff tear. Rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles in the shoulder girdle that has the function to lift the arm. Usually, when people fall on the shoulder may result in rotator cuff tear that can be partial or total.

You may need a MRI to evaluate and see an orthopedic surgeon. If it is full tear you need arthroscopic surgery to repair the rotator cuff. If it is partial tear you may discuss with your surgeon about possible conservative treatment and see if you can avoid surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Edvin Selmani
