My sister is 67 and has suddenly lost her short term memory. She is moving all the time and knows something is wrong with her. She cries all the time. A eeg and spinal tap was performed and everything is normal. She can not be left alone because she wonders around and mght hurt herself. Sometimes he starts laughing uncontrollably and says something is wrong. She is diabetic and has sleep apnea and has had saurcodosis in her lungs, all the pulmonary tests are normal, please help get her back to where she was!
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. It appears from the description that short term memory loss of your sister in age of 67 years could be due to silent stroke or silent cerebral infarct (SCI). It causes transient episode of neurologic dysfunction caused by loss of blood supply to some specific areas of brain. It can present with changes in mood, personality, cognition and memory. Diabetes is one of the problems associated with such condition. Since her EEG and spinal tap is normal, she need to get evaluated by undergoing CT scan of brain. Kindly consult Neurologist with the report for proper evaluation and management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
