Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am getting enough sleep and physically I feel fine but for huge chunks of the day, I cannot keep my eyes open, I have to really strain and fight. I am squinting and driving is getting dangerous. What can I do? It is also making it hard for me to work. Thanks.
I went through your details. You should determine the problem is really physical fatigue or idiopathic hypersomnia. From the given symptoms, it seems the second choice. Idiopathic hypersomnia can have many possible causes, including conditions such as narcolepsy, sleep apnoea or restless legs syndrome; severe sleep deprivation; depression; certain medications (such as tranquilizers) or drug and alcohol misuse.
You should be able to provide more information regarding your general health. A number of tests can be carried out to assess your sleep and help identify any underlying cause in a specialty sleep center. Polysomnography and Multiple sleep latency test are two usual priorities. Please consult a physician first instead of worrying yourself.
