Suggest Remedy For Red, Irritated And Rash Like Bumps On Vagina After Using Tampons

Hi, I usually am very itchy before I start my period so that was totally normal. Then used mini pads because my period is usually pretty light due to the use of birth control (nuvaring). But for some reason my skin seemed to have a rash so I tried using tampons, keeping the area clean, using Vaseline so the area wouldn t be so area. It was sort of a small rash on both sides on the outside of my vagina. Red and irritated and a few little bumps like a normal rash which I have had in the past. I am just getting off of my period, but for some reason the rash seems to be healing, but peeling. I have kept an eye on it to make sure it s not blistering or anything like herpes, and it hasn t. I m just a little nervous that it could be something serious. Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to yeast infection. If you send a picture it will be more helpful in identifying. A swab test will be helpful to rule out this. For yeast infection I would recommend using clotrimazole cream for local application. Clotrimazole is available as over the counter in brands like monistat. Avoid using soaps and irritants to wash the area and instead you can use warm water or saline. Intimate wash is also good to use.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
