Suggest Remedy For Persistent Abdominal Bloating Post Treatment For Broken Ribs

I have 4 fractured ribs in my chest. Doctors found it in my CT. My abdomen is quite swollen & wondered what it was due to. Broke ribs a week ago & after 5 days of being impacted, went to ER where it was taken care of, that was Wednesday. Have been going regularly now but stomach is still swollen. Taking it easy & pretty much off of pain meds to only when I really need them. I m a 63 yr. old female with osteoporosis and I know my bones are pretty brittle. Just concerned on why abdomen would be swollen.

Hi,Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Dear I read your query and reviewed it with context to your query facts.
I understood your health concerns and feel Concerned about them.

Based on the facts of your query, you seem to suffer from-
Post-Rib Fracture Paralytic Ilues, due to ?post-fracture pnuemonia causing ileus / or it could be Neurogenic bowel with ileus from intra-abdominal ? liver ? spleen injury ? intestinal pressure rupture from fractured ribs.
Swollen stomach in your case seems to occur after 1 week or so after the fracture ribs.Post-fracture embolism of the intestines through mesenteric artery embolism needs to be kept in mind, while investigating the cause of this Abdominal bloating in your case.
CT Abdomen with Standing X-ray Abdomen with Gas under diaphragm needs to be worked out to rule out the intestinal rupture from sudden pressure changes in the abdomen caused from 4 fracture ribs in your chest.
Hope this reply would help you to plan further treatment with your family and specialist doctors there.
Any intra-abdomnal organ injury needs to be ruled out in your case.
Remedy-
Second opinion from Surgeon and Chest Surgeon / and physician would assess the gravity of situation and would investigate the causes of the abdominal bloating in your case.
Hospitalisation / with Iv fluids and antibiotics with Nil By Mouth till intestinal movement comes back if need be would be needed in your case and further treatment could be given as per the assessment of cause of abdominal bloating accordingly ,by a team of chest physician and Surgeon.
For your age as osteoporosis makes your chest more brittle, proper treatment of fracture of ribs with respiratory management is to be kept in mind in your case.

Hope this reply would help you to plan further treatment with your doctors there with you.
Welcome for any further query in this regard.

Good Day!!
