Psychiatrist 's  Response
She will benefit from measures such as simple exercises (walking in waist high water is a very good exercise for the elderly with knee problems), calcium & vitamin supplements (especially Vitamin D3), balanced diet, as active a lifestyle as she can maintain, gentle massage and warm water bath at night.
If she has problem sleeping at night, she should avoid sleeping in day time.
Check with GP about the pain medication again. If you think she is depressed, consult a psychiatrist.
Hope this answer is helpful.
