Suggest Remedy For Painful Diarrhea

I am frustrated, as I have had diarrhea for 2 weeks, and had to cancel a business trip and am still not better. I ran a fever last week with it, and called my doctor when I got home Saturday from my 1st business trip (had to cancel the second one). I have had diverticulitis before and thought that was what I had, but he told me I needed to go to the ER. They did a CT scan and said they did not see it, but they thought I had diverticulitis and sent me home with antibiotics and pain meds. I was supposed to do a clear liquid diet for 2 days, which I did, but today could have bland foods such as saltines and mashed potatoes. I had my first bowel movement since the ER visit, and it was again painful diarrhea. I called my GI doctor back, but he can t see me for 3 weeks. This is interfering with my life, as I had to cancel my trip and I cannot eat, and I am wondering if maybe I have something else going on. Should I try to visit my primary care doctor? I am afraid he will just tell me to visit the GI doctor, and I really don t want to go through another 3 weeks of weakness, pain, and diarrhea. Not to mention this is embarrassing if I am out in public- I really don t want to tell people what is wrong.

Hi thanks for asking question.

First try to avoid stress as it can precipitate your diarrhea.

There is no worry in visiting gastric surgeon.

Noted you have watery diarrhea..You have to first examination your stool.

Stool may show eggs or trophozoites of parasitres that suggest parasitic infection of gastrointestinal tract.Treated with metronidazole or albendazole according to causative parasites.

Do you have mucous in stool?? If present search for inflammatory bowel disease.Endoscopy can be useful.

Rule out thyroid problem hyperthyroid , HIV like disease as it can lead diarrhea for prolong duration.

Endoscopy done and biopsy taken from suspicious are might reveal microscopic colitis or lymphocytic colitis.

Meanwhile follow below instruction....
-Avoid smoke
-Avoid alcohol
-Avoid excess spicy food
-Avoid fatty and fried foot for few days
-Drink more water to maintain hydration
-Green leafy veg gradually can be started

If still bacteria infection strongly suspected then stool culture can be done and treated accordingly with intravenous antibiotic if needed.

Wish you good health.
