Suggest Remedy For Pain While Coughing After Injury To Ribs
I am a 6ft 180lb 28 year old male, I injured my ribs last Thursday due to a impact injury and it has been getting noticeably worse every day. There is a small bruise on the surface but the pain has been radiating outwards especially towards my back and it is getting a little harder to breathe I ve also noticed a lot more flem coming out when I cough which is extremely painful. I ve been told by many people that the er wont do anything to help besides tell me if its broken or not. I have family history of diverticulitis and I was stabbed multiple times around the injured area a few years ago not sure if that is relevant. Please any advice?
Hi, It seems from your symptoms that you are having a musculo-skeletal injury which is why you are experiencing pain while coughing.
Did you notice any haemoptysis (coughing out of blood) or severe respiratory distress? If these symptoms are not present, you should not worry a lot. Still,to rule out a rib fracture, you have to get a chest x-ray done.
Meanwhile, take some analgesics and anti-inflammatory like aceclofenac and paracetamol which ll relieve your pain, Hot fomentation ll also be helpful. Take care and get well soon.
