Suggest Remedy For Pain In Abdomen And Throat Possibly Caused By GERD

I have bad pain in the upper stomach area and below the throat, which caused my loss of voice. My GI thinks it is GERD, but i do not feel any acid reflux. I feel the food content staying in my stomach for too long and it goes up to give me a bad bitter taste in the mouth. i have been taking Nexium for 2 months but it does not help. Thank you for your advice!

Hello

Thanks for asking query on HCM. After assessing your complaints you seem to have been suffering from GERD. Although Nexium (a proton pump inhibitor) is the first line of management, I dont know what dose are you taking - ideally you need to take 40 mg twice daily for 4 to 6 weeks. Prokinetic agent like domperidone or levosupiride or itopride added to it would work better. You also need some life style modifications like - small frequent meals, avoid sleep soon after eating food.

If you still have symptoms then you would require - 24 hour pH metry to confirm the diagnosis and to assess requirement of surgery - fundoplication.

Take care
