Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve recently stubbed my big toe about 4 days ago, and it has turned blackish underneath the nail. It doesn t hurt anymore like it did the first day, it s just a lot of pressure in my toe when I walk but it s nothing serious. Will my nail be falling off soon? If so, how do i take care of my toe when it will be in that sensitive state?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. The black toenail is suggestive of a hematoma formation either due to a soft tissue injury or due to a hairline fracture. 1. Do a cold compress on the area of injury. 2. Avoid weight bearing on the foot. 3. Keep the foot elevated on two pillows while resting. 4. Get some mild pain killers prescribed from your doctor. Rest assured it will subside in a week or more. But if you have persistent pain and increase in swelling, please go ahead and confirm the diagnosis with CT scan or X-ray. The only precaution that you must keep in mind is that it should not get infected (from any other source in body), cause if it does it will turn into an abscess.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
