at the age of 65 years memory loss issue may be psychiatric illness related or may be organic condition.
so detail history and mental status examination is must to see what is the underlying problem behind memory loss.
is he has hypertension or diabetes?
is there any history of stroke or paralysis or head injury?
if possible do MRI of brain .
consult psychiatry for detail history and mental status examination.
