I have very low cortisol levels and extremely fatigued all the time. The cause of low cortisol hasn t been determined.,.. Only test done were a stimulation test (raised cortisol from 3.9 to 11.1 at 30 mins. And 17.8 at 60 mins.) what should I do next to counteract the low levels and give me normal functioning energy. I m currently taking hydrocortisone 10mg twice a day.

Hello,
Thank you for asking!
As you prescribed, you are diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency due the the result of the hormone levels. If it is not as a result of the adrenal suppression by long term treatment with cortisone for different reasons, the most common cause is an autoimmune process that is often associated with autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland, type 1 Diabetes, ect. So it i would recommended to check the TSH level, antiTPO antibodies and the glucose level.
To rule out any other cause of the adrenal insufficiency is recommended an MRI of the adrenal gland.
If the symptoms do persist with 20 mg of Hydrocortisone, you may discus with your treating doctor to raise the dose (after checking your blood pressure, electrolyte level ect,.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta Guni
