Good luck!
The insomnia after alcoholism can be so severe in the immediate period after stopping drinking that it can lead to delirium and even fatal seizures. This period is certainly under one week. This is due to both changes in the nervous system due to being on a sedative for a long time AND also likely due to direct damage to nerves due to alcohol. I have many people with this but none totally got over it.

Doesn't have much to do with marijuana (which has slight STIMULANT properties and is not related to the sedatives of alcohol). Smoking in bed can lead to fatal fires, but it does not lead to interactions with sedatives or alcohol.
