Suggest Remedy For Indigestion, Nausea And Severe Gas

Hello again. Recently, it was determined that my 75 mg extended release venlafaxine had become toxic to me. So, after about one year of use I stopped it abruptly, cold turkey 6/28/15. My symptoms of toxicity subsided. Hair stopped falling out, neuropathy in hands and feet improved. Toes still feel swollen at end of every day but feel much better in general. However, I am struggling with severe upper GI issues, indigestion, nausea, severe gas/ bloating pain especially at night when I want to sleep. I do not want to take any more venlafaxine. How else may I treat my GI discomfort and how long should I expect it to last? I am limping along taking Gas-X, tums, malox. Sleeping is a problem.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Abdominal bloating pain, nausea and indigeation could be due to acute gastroenteritis which in turn could be because of your drug venlafaxine etc.

You should undergo routine blood count, electrolytes with clinical examination of abdomen or ultrasound of abdomen if pain or bloating persists even after discontinuing the drug.

You might require anti-emetic (ondasetron) antispasmodics (dicyclomine) and antacids (pantoprazole or rabeprazole) with prebiotics and probiotics for symptomatic relief.

Stop taking venlafaxine and gas-x with other medications further and consult physician or psychiatric who has prescribed it mainly for other alternative drug.

You may see improvement within 4 to 5 days with this symptomatic treatment and also take sleeping pill from the help of your doctor.

You should consult physician for further treatment.
