Suggest Remedy For Headache And Dizziness

Hello, I am a 32 year old woman, 180 pounds. I am normally pretty healthy, but lately I have been under quite a lot of stress in my life. I started my period about 3 days ago. Normally, every time I get my period it is very normal for me to get a headache, or even a migrane with vomiting. Yesterday on the second day of my period, I got a headache and I still have it today. The headache today was probably a borderline migrane for me and I took throughout the day about 800mg of Avdil. I was able to finish my work day with the help of the Advil, but the headache still lingered. My main concern is that as I was stuck in traffic driving home tonight, I got extremely dizzy all of a sudden. I felt as if I was going to fall forward onto my steering wheel in the car and pass out. After about a minute, the dizziness went away. But, on the rest of my journey home, I got two more intense dizzy spells and felt extremely lightheaded. I have never experienced dizziness like this before. I scared me so much while I was driving. Upon arriving at my home, I went to lie down and I took my temperature. I took three readings about 5 minutes apart: the first was 97.7F, the second was 97.4F and the last was 97.2 F. Should I be concerned about how I am feeling? I am not sure if I should go see my regular doctor tomorrow. I am even afraid to drive to work, or attempt to work tomorrow. I don t know if i will become dizzy again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

Did you measure your blood pressure during these days?

A low blood pressure or an orthostatic hypotension (exacerbated by the blood loss during the periods), could be the cause of your problems.

Another cause ( not related to your periods), would be an inner ear disorder, cuasing short episodes of acute vertigo.

I recommend monitoring your blood pressure during sitting and standing up position. A routine blood test (for anemia), kidney and liver function tests, thyroid hormone levels, blood sugar and blood electrolytes, are necessary to exclude other metabolic causes.

I would advise consulting with the ENT specialist for a careful physical examination and labirinthyne tests, to rule out a possible inner ear disorder.

If all the above tests result normal, the most probable cause of this clinical scenario would be anxiety.

Hope to have been of help!

Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
