Hello~My 2.5 year old just fell and hit the back of his head on the wood floor, right before bed....we put ice on it immediately, there doesn't appear to be a bump, but how long do we have to keep him up? What do we need to look for? What do we do....he weighs 36 lbs, and is 37 in tall
I can understand your concern. As you have already applied ice on injury site, there is little chance that any swelling will appear. He may have headache for few days. It can be managed by pain killers like syrup paracetamol after proper prescription.
You should carefully observe any episode of vomiting, loss of consciousness, bleeding from ear/nose/throat, persistent headache, new onset of focal deficit, excessive sleepiness, irritability. If any of above symptoms occur, you must consult neurosurgeon. He may need CT scan of head and proper evaluation.
Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.
