Suggest Remedy For Excessive Drainage After Removal Of Adnoids
My son had his adnoids removed with tube placement about 8 months ago. Suddenly he has had excessive drainage from his ears. It started with his left ear and has moved to his right. It drains like a faucet. It is purulent to me and it smells. I took him to the pediatrician and she said the tubes were in place and he just had a little fluid. She put him on antibiotic drops for 10 days, but there was no relief. He talks really loud and he is constantly hitting his ear. I assume maybe the vibration, etc. Is this normal or shoud I follow back up with the surgeon. Although he has not experienced a fever, it just appears really abnormal to me. Thanks for your assistance
Your son seems to be having blockage of the Eustachian tube following an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection. The discarge which has to clear through the nose is pouring out from the ear. As it is foul smelling, there can be underlying infection; hence continue with ear drops.
Please make him do steam inhalation and encourage him to drink plenty of warm water. Try using saline nasal spray along with steroid nasal spray and an oral decongestant. If the symptoms persists, please contact your doctor.
