Suggest Remedy For Difficulty In Breathing While Sleeping

I have strep throat and an ear infection at the same time. The antibiotics are kicking in and im starting to feel better. No fever, chills, or night sweats. My throat is still swollen, but its my ear that causes the most pain. I stopped taking pain relievers because of getting nose bleeds. My biggest trouble is trying to sleep. No matter how I sleep(upright, on my side, back, stomach), I feel like im choking and I wake up constantly. What, if anything, is there that I can do to stop the choking sensation?

Hello dear user of HCM!
Welcome and thank you for sharing your concerns with us!

Having throat and ear infections lead to this wheezing and difficulty while breathing, especially during the sleep because all the muscles around the throat are fully relaxed.

Usually it goes when the infection is removed and the throat and ears are healed. There are some medications taken from nostrils that can be used to remove the congestion or airways strictures.

Despite the antibiotics you are using for the infection you can use Nozetal(xylometazoline 0.1%) 3 drops in each nostril before bedtime every night to ease the respiration, or Eucaliptus balsamic gels that can be put over your chest or upper lip.

If you don't have any improvements after using them, even if your infections have gone, you may need other procedures and interventions to release your breathing ways that can be done from the ENT specialist.

I hope you will be fine soon.
Take care!
DR ERIOL.
