Suggest Remedy For Constipation In An Infant While Being On Semi Solid Food And Breastmilk

Dear Dr. Santhosh, My daughter is 8 months old and still she is having breast feed and she is having trouble in poop. it takes 2 - 3 days for her to poop and its very hard and diameter is huge and some time it will hurt her anal. we started applying liquid parafin to anal and blood stops. i was suggested to give bonnisan or gripe water for normal poop. Please advice if there is any side effects and its good to give. Its really very hard to see my little daughter suffering in pain while she poop. Note: she is not suffering from any stomach pain, she is taking breast feed and cerelac stage one(even before she have same issue). Thanks Aswath

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. I understand your concern. At 8 months its not right to be only breast feeds..this itself could be the cause for constipation. I suggest you start giving her mashed fruits and vegetables..especially Papaya will help a lot. Its time you started giving some water too. Coming to your query - Bonnisan and gripe water are neither helpful nor harmful. So better avoid them. Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time.
