Suggest Remedy For Chapped Lips With Stinging Sensations And Blisters

I have had extremely chapped lips for a few months which I have used various emollients to try to improve them. My bottom lip is much worse than the top one. The area around my lower lip and the sides of my mouth have stinging sensations which sometimes are worse than other time periods. When the symptoms are worst, the skin on my lower lip cracks open and looks and feels like it was blistered, even though I have not really been exposed to the sun for it to be a blister. It almost feels as if my lower lip has been exposed to something really hot which blistered the skin. I visited a dermatologist several months ago when this first started. At that time, I thought the problem could be a sensitivity to red food dyes which are in life savers that I was using. The doctor did not think that was it. I stopped the life savers completely and the problem has continued. It intermittenly seems to improve, but never completely, and then it gets worse again as it has for the past several days. I have tried vitamin E cream, Aquaphor, various lip treatments, but nothing has really stopped this problem. Any suggestions?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query chapped lips with stinging sensations and blisters is due to excessive licking of lips along with dry climatic condition , which remove the natural moist layer from the lips. Hence cracks starts appearing on the lips which further become prone to fungal infection. I would like to suggest you that use petroleum jelly , drink lots of water ,avoid to stay in dry environment for longer period . Avoid using creams containing high steroid content ,wash your face with mild soap twice a day and avoid licking your lips . Use lip balm which can be directly applied rather than if you use finger it will cause spreading of infection again and again whenever you will apply with finger. You can apply aloevera gel as well. If still symptoms keeps on persisting consult a Dermatologist once and get evaluated and he can also advise you to get blood investigation done to rule out for allergies. Start treatment as per proper diagnosis.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
