Suggest Remedy For An Itchy Vagina

I have an embarrassing issue with my vagina, it's so itchy and sometimes smells like cheese or dirty feet if that makes sense. I have no discharge at all no lumps or bumps on my vagina but I guess the best word to describe this issue is inflammation. I am not sexually active, still a virgin. I am way too embarrassed to go to a gyno. I've just been using caneston it kinda calms it down but it is temporary then it starts again usually a week or two before my period. I've looked at Lichen Sclerosis, yeast infection, thrush but I don't know really. My labia majoras seem redish and they're the most itchy part. I would mention I seem to be having green stains on panties but from my groin like green or florescent green stains its from my groin area definitely not my vagina I'm 100% sure of that. I hope you get back to me cause I am starting to hate this and low self esteem :(

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your problem is most likely bacterial vaginosis and associated yeast infection. It is better to have a local examination with a GP or gynecologist and take a swab to rule out this. For such cases, I treat with combination of antibiotics like clindamycin or metronidazole with clotrimazole as vaginal suppository or as oral tab. I also recommend my patients to use intimate wash regularly to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and PH and thereby prevent from getting further infections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nishad BN
