I m an rn so I am a bit aware of things and was wondering if the herbalife shakes my hubby has been on for 2 and a half years could have any effect on his kidneys and perhaps made him susceptible to This uti. He is on Cipro now. He is willing to stop the herbalife and go green with kale etc. I just am worried he might have some kind of damage. Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for query .

Your husband has burning urination and his routine urine test has revealed presence of RBC ,W.B.C which strongly suggests UTI .

He has been taking herbal products and you have doubt his UTI to be due to side effects of these producta ,Side effects of any drug or herbal product will be reflected in test like raised creatinine or urea levels in blood .

Please note that his UTI is definitely not related to these products , basically a bacterial infection of urinary tract .

Please get urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to establish a cause of his UTI,
1) Urine Culture
2) Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA,.

In the mean while continue taking Ciprofloxacin till you get urine culture report

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis
