I have had hives reoccurring since I had an allergic reaction to something in high school. I am now mid forty and last night had my lip and jaw on the left side of my face. Should I be overly concerned to get to my doctor over the weekend? I am not experiencing any tongue swelling nor throat swelling or itching.
Hi. As per your case history of chronic urticaria, my treatment advice is - 1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors for 3 months. 2. Don't take any medication without consulting a doctor as it may worsen the condition. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 2 months. 4. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion when hives appear. 5. Other treatment options are oral steroid, hydroxyzine and colchicine taken after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
