Suggest Remedies For Pain In Lips Post Injury

Had seven stitches yesterday evening on my bottom lip and my top lip had some kind of glue put on it... I woke up in pain and mild blood . The ER did not give me any type of medicine or pain reliever .. can I put orajel on it? How do I keep it from getting infected ? And what do I do for pain?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain and slight bleeding after stitches and gluing over the lips seems to be due to inflammation that is common after trauma and is not a sign of infection..
However you should have been advised painkillers to reduce inflammation and pain..
You should start applying antiseptic ointment over it to prevent infection..
Apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine over it to relieve pain..
You can also take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to relieve pain..
Do cool compresses over it to relieve inflammation..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of pain in lips post injury which is very common after stitches due to formation of purulent exudate. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Apply cold compresses on lips.
- Apply aloe vera gel.
- Apply antibacterial ointment
- Take Ibuprofen to relieve pain.
- Drink plenty of fluids.

If symptoms keep son persisting visit oral physician once and get it examined and go for stitches examination to check any infection and start treatment accordingly.
