Suggest Remedies For Bronchiolitis With Rhinovirus In An Infant

Hi there, my 4 months old has a mild bronchiolites and was diagnosed with rhinovirus. It s been a week now. She has a blocked nose too. I am using saline water, have a humidifier in her room and using a nebulizer with water a few times a day. She is drinking formula but a bit less than normal. We have a long flight to take in 3 days, would she be ok to fly?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Bronchiolitis is a respiratory tract infection.Like other respiratory infections, it is mostly caused by respiratory viruses like rhinovirus. However, bacteria infection or superinfection are possible.Since the cause has already been identified as rhinivirus, symptomatic treatment will do and will need to be well administered as bacteria infection can set in.You may travel with her but she should not be exposed to environmental irritants like dust, cold and smoke.I will suggest you try the following:
-Continue with nasal washing with saline, nebulizer
-Add a steroid like celestene
-Avoid environmental irritants as cited above
-Enough rest and let her drink enough fluids
Hope this will help
Best regards
