Suggest Prognosis Of CHF Stage III With Breathlessness, Wheezing, Coughing, Leg Redness
My Dad is 79 y.o. and has CHF. He is now on inhalers and walking from the plan to baggage claim caused him distress in breathing. he awoke with wheezing and coughing. I suspect he is in Stage III. He has had CHF about 8/9 years. His lower legs are red. What is the life expectancy for him at this point? We live in different states and I am worried deeply about him. He made lifestyle changes but gained 15 lbs. in the past 6 months even with daily walking.
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Seems that your dad actually is suffering form decompensated chronic heart failure, at least on class III.
I recommend you to consult his cardiologist for a comprehensive medical re-evaluation, as his life expectancy, facing disease severity, is not promising in short and long terms as well.
A careful physical examination, a cardiac ultrasound, and possible additional tests (chest X ray study, some blood tests like complete blood count, BUN, creatinine, electrolytes, etc) are necessary to review and optimize his therapy. Perhaps, a few days hospitalization would be helpful to manage the situation.
Hope to have been helpful. Greetings! Dr. Iliri.
