Suggest Precautions To Be Taken For Short Cervix During Pregnancy

Hi doctor, I am 39, am entering my 8th month of my first pregnancy and have been diagnosed with a slightly shortened cervix, no other worrisome signs (no fatigue, no abnormal contractions, etc.). My midwife has said that I just need to rest as much as possible, and can continue my daily 1/2 hr commute to work (in an office) as long as the rest of the time I take it easy. However, when mentioning (without exam) the cervix issue to a doctor, he said I need bed rest and to stop working immediately and until the birth of the baby. Who should I believe?

Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Short cervical length isaassociated with preterm labour and delivery and hence the baby can have the problem of prematurity like respiratory distress and necrotizing enterocolitis.
I would suggest you to take rest, and have restricted physical activity, as straining and stressing can lead to opening of the short cervix, and labour and delivery.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
