Suggest Non Surgical Treatment For Enlarged Prostate

The doctor is wanting to remove the prostrate gland. It is enlarged, but not cancerous. Why remove the entire gland? Also, I have a stone in the Bladder to remove. Are there any other alternatives to reduce the swelling of the prostrate, BPH? Thank You Gary Attardo

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Since your doctor suggested for removal he might have had some points to come to that conclusion. These days there are various types of surgery available for enlarged prostate. TURP where they approach through the urethra and scoop out the major portion of the gland in very small scoops. Another one is TUNA where the approach is same but here they only ablate the gland. Anyways these are long term permanent solution to benign enlargement of prostate but medicines can be tried for some times. like tamsulosin with or without dutasteride.
