Suggest Methods To Boost Vitamin Levels

Hello,
My name is Paul and I am 47 and I just got my blood test back today and I am worried about what I have been told. My vit D levels are far below minium levels and my iron levels three times higher than normal? I went to see a doctor because lf stomach pain, thinking I my have high acid levels. I was sent to get xray of ab, and blood test. Now I am not feeling good about these results. Please help me understsnd first what may have caused this and second how my I take action. Also my doctor said to buy 50000 mil,gr tablet of vit D, and donate blood. I am prior military and I lived in Germany for twenty years so they will not take my A- blood. What am I to do.
thank you Paul

Hi Paul,
Calm down. In Michigan where I live over 90% of individuals are Vitamin D deficient unless they take supplements or consume it in a functional or fortified food product. So,don't be alone. Repletion of low vitamin D ( a prohormone) should be attempted with 1,000 up to 500IU of vitaminD3 every day. Donating blood regulary is a GREAT way to get rid of excess iron. Also watch labels, don't indulge excessively in foods high in iron such as red meat, molasses, dark gree vegies, other meat products, milk. Do not ever take calcium with iron and iron should be taken by itself and not with medications or other supplements. Get multivitamins without iron if you take these. So, what your doctor told you to do was essentially correct.

Have a great day! Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
