Suggest Method To Detect Abnormality In Fetus

Dr, I am 38 old medium built male and my wife is 32yrs. Our one and only child is a case of spastic CP with episodes of siezure in between. She cant walk or speak and has gross motor delay. Now she is 6 yrs old and we are planning to have another baby. Is there any tests (pre-pregnancy or post pregnancy) to ascertain whether my next child will also have these sort of problems. please help me name the tests if any

Hello and welcome to HCM,
In order to detect any abnormality in subsequent pregnancy certain tests have to be done.
These tests start at 8-10 weeks of pregnancy.
Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is the earliest investigation which samples cells of the developing baby for genetic testing.
Amniocentesis is the second investigation that can be done at 18-20 weeks of pregnancy.
Besides these investigations, serial ultrasonography should be done regularly for assessing well being of the child.
Triple test is a blood test which can be performed at 18-20 weeks of pregnancy to detect neural tube defects in the baby.

You can consult your obstetrician for further work up.

Thanks and take care
