Nicotine replacement doubles your likelihood of quitting.
This includes patches, lozenges and gum which are considered safe and e-cigaretttes which are too new to entirely tell their safety but the UK medical board has recently encouraged their use.
I cannot fully recommend the nicotine blocker Chantix because while it lowers the joy out of smoking and has nearly the same benefits of nicotine replacement. It is much tougher to use with price and that it immediately puts you into withdrawal (unpleasant in the context of a heavy smoker).
