Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have have been diagnosed with pityriasis rosea by two doctors. One gave me antihistamines and steroid cream the other said don't take steroid cream and use calamine and Zyrtec at night! It has been over a month and I feel very tired! Is this normal? I have the rash a little on the neck more on the back and chest and abdomen area. Can I take erythromicin to shorten the disease? The one thing that bothers me is that I am very tired always and not sleeping well From itching!
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. No treatment is usually required for pityriasis rosea. Oral antihistamines or topical steroids may be used to decrease itching. Calamine lotion may be soothing to the skin and reduce itching and has no side-effects. Irritants such as soaps with fragrances, hot water, wool, and synthetic fabrics should be avoided. Direct sunlight makes the lesions resolve more quickly. UV therapy is most beneficial in the first week of the eruption. Muscle weakness & asthenia can occur with antihistamines. Stop Zyrtec (cetirizine) ,an antihistamine. If your tiredness still persist ,go for further evaluation.
