Suggest Medication For Muscle Cramps And Shortness Of Breath During Exercise
my teen daughter experiences a sharp cramp when she runs during soccer and track. She is 5 ft. 110lbs and in excellent shape and a good athlete. she has been checked by a heart doctor and there are no issues there. Our primary suggested she take prilosec which my daughter did and the pain continues. Then she suggested that she take motrin 1 hour before workouts, but this has not helped. The past two times she worked out the pain was accompanied by shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. My daughter also says she is getting fatigued easily when working out.
I have gone through the medical history of your daughter and understood your concerns.
As she is having pain with shortness of breath and difficulty of breathing, while cardiac and stomach problems have been ruled out, then, I highly recommend to: - get respiratory function test - chest-X-ray - abdominal ultrasound - complete blood count to rule out anemia - blood electrolytes
For the moment, I advise to: - encourage her keeping well hydrated - avoid exercise until final diagnosis
Hope it was of help! Dr.Albana
