Suggest Medication For Infection On The Scalp

This is related to my scalp. About 8 or 9 years ago we went to Puerto Rico and went snorkeling. We were in deep water ,but when I came up I had this stuff in my hair and it felt gritty almost like sand ?? We had a few miles back to shore and the sun was real hot. That evening I started scratching and felt like I couldn t stop. Till we got home I had almost my entire scalp scratch open. The 1st two years I tried everything , went to a dermatologist had injections , nothing seemed to help. I would get some relief for awhile and it would start all over . It is somewhat better , except I still scratch it feels like my scalp is gritty with bumps ,and just recently I had a secbacous cyst removed it was 3 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches . Just don t know what to do anymore.

Hi.
As per your case history you may be having recurrent folliculitis of scalp.
It is a chronic condition requiring at least 3 months of therapy.
My treatment advice is -
1. Avoid applying hair oil for atleast 3 months. And avoid sun exposure on scalp.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic lotion like clindamycin lotion on scalp once at night. Use a good ketoconazole shampoo on alternate days.
3. Oral antibiotic options required for 3 months include oral tetracycline, rifampicin, clindamycin along with NSAID and oral antifungal medicines taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
