Suggest Medication For High Fever In Child

My daughter is 8 years old and has had a fever throughtout the day, an hour ago her temp was at 101.1 and now it has risen to 101.9. I gave her 2 tsp childrens ibuprofen when I took her temp an hour ago and it hasn't gone down. How often should I check her temp and when should I take her to the doctors or ER?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for your question. Fever is common in this age group and can be due to a variety of reasons. It is the bodies response to infection. If it has been more thank 1 hour since the ibuprofin has been given and the fever remains, you can give a dose of children's acetaminophen. Additionally, coil compresses and sips of cool fluids can also sometimes help lower a fever. There is generally no reason yo go to an ER for fever alone, unless accompanied by some other severe symptoms. However, after 2 days of fever, its a good idea to consult with your doctor.
