Suggest Medication For Asthma And Severe Lung Infection

I was just released from hospital. I have asthma and had a severe lung infection. The doctors immediately decided that it is due to the fact that we have 10 parrots, one being an umbrella cockatoo, one African grey and various others. They want me to get rid of my birds. I am having a great deal of difficulty facing that possibility and need more information before going that route. I have not been home since it was thoroughly cleaned as my husband was trying to minimize the dander/dust as much as possible. Any suggestions about getting better but keeping our parrots?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is more.
And most likely cause for this is exposure to allergen. Common household allergens are dust, mites, animal dander, fur etc.
Best treatment for this is avoidance of allergen.
If you do this, no treatment is required. Pneumonia heals by itself once we remove the allergen.
So in my opinion, you should definitely remove all the birds (suspected allergens) from you home.
You will definitely improve once you remove them.
You might not need medicine also.
So there is no alternative to this. This is for your health. No way it is possible to keep birds in home and you getting better.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
